Years Teaching Overall: 17
Years Teaching at St. Paul’s: 17
Currently teaching: Kindergarten
Proudest teaching moment: “It is hard to pick just one! I had one student whose family was not Christian. She soaked up each Bible story and taught them along with the different prayers we learned in class to her family. She was a little missionary!”
Teaching Philosophy: “I believe my role as an educator is to help develop the children in every aspect of life: socially, emotionally, physically, academically, and spiritually. I am blessed to teach at a Lutheran school where I can share my faith in Jesus with the students and His love for them. Each child has the capacity to learn, and it is my job to find out how they learn best. I also believe in the independence of children. If there is a task that they can do, it is more beneficial to let them do it rather than taking over.”
Toughest challenge facing educators: “The toughest challenge as a kindergarten teacher is to keep the curriculum developmentally appropriate amidst the desire to push kindergartners ahead. Some children might be ready for pencil and paper tasks and reading, but definitely not all of them. To overcome this challenge, I incorporate play throughout the day. The students can learn so much through discovery and interacting with their peers.”
