State Highway Administration to Resurface More Than two Miles of US 50 in Dorchester County; Motorists Can Expect Traffic Delays, Single-Lane Closures During Work Hours
Dorchester County, MD. (July 25, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a project to resurface a 2.25-mile section of westbound US 50 (Ocean Gateway) between the area east of Mill Road and Linkwood Road in Dorchester County on Monday, July 31. The project is expected to be complete by the end of August, weather permitting.
Crews will work 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. weekdays. The work will require single-lane closures with flagging operations, and drivers should anticipate delays during work hours. Motorists will be guided safely through the work zone by flaggers, cones, barrels, and arrow boards. Motorcycles should use caution on uneven pavement during the project.
Hot asphalt may require up to two hours to cool before drivers and pedestrians can safely cross the new road surface. Contractor for the project is George & Lynch Inc., of Dover, Del.
The State Highway Administration understands road work can be an inconvenience, but the work is necessary to maintain a safe and reliable transportation system. To protect themselves and our work crews, drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones. Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
