Annapolis, MD – Nancy Kopp, who served as Treasurer of Maryland from 2002 through 2021, has been newly elected to the Board of Directors of the Maryland League of Conservation Voters (Maryland LCV). She will serve a three-year term beginning April 2022.
“Nancy Kopp brings an extraordinary mix of political experience, fiscal management, and planning skills to her board role with Maryland LCV,” said Maryland LCV Executive Director Kim Coble. “Her environmental leadership is also noteworthy: When Nancy served on the Maryland Commission of Climate Change, she was widely respected for her engagement and resolve to advance strong climate policy in Maryland. She will be a tremendous asset to our organization and our board.”
Kopp recently retired after five decades of public service. Most recently, she served as Treasurer of Maryland from 2002 through 2021. Prior to her election as State Treasurer, Kopp served in the Maryland House of Delegate from 1975-2002, representing Montgomery County.
As State Treasurer, Kopp was one of three members of the Maryland State Board of Public Works (along with the Governor and Comptroller) and thereby authorized expenditures of all capital appropriations and nearly all state public works projects.
Over her time as a delegate, Kopp chaired the Joint Committee on Spending Affordability, as well as the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education and Economic Development. She also served, at various times, as Deputy Majority Leader and Speaker Pro Tem. During her legislative career, Kopp was named by her colleagues as the most effective woman legislator and one of the 10 most effective members of the House.
