The Navy Midshipmen continue to cement their identity as not only the top rushing team in the country, but one that is accompanied by a tremendously stout defense.
Saturday's dominant 35-3 win over South Florida marked the first time since the 2013 Armed Forces Bowl that the Mids did not allow a touchdown. The three points allowed are the fewest since Navy's 2012 victory over VMI.
The defense collected five sacks with Jacob Springer setting a career-high with three. Navy also held South Florida to just 114 yards passing.
Diego Fagot again led the defense in tackles, racking up 10 on the day.
The Midshipmen are now 5-1 for the fourth time in the last five seasons.
Led by Malcolm Perry's 188 rushing yards, Navy put up 434 yards on the Bulls defense.
Perry's performance against South Florida put him in elite company in Annapolis. He became just the fourth Midshipman to reach 3,000 career rushing yards, joining Keenan Reynolds, Napoleon McCallum and Chris McCoy.
The Midshipmen are 4-0 this season and 11-3 overall when Perry runs for at least 100 yards.
Perry also ran for two touchdowns, including a 67-yard scamper with 3:56 left in the first quarter.
Navy hosts Tulane next Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
