Since we will not be able to ring in the new year from our favorite bars and restaurants, we need to figure out a way to really celebrate the arrival of 2021 in our own homes. Watching the ball drop and popping champagne will not be enough.
First off, get dressed up. We have spent the last nine months wearing out our favorite sweats and pajamas. New Year’s Eve is a great excuse to pull out dresses, heels, and suits for the first time in a long time.
Pour yourself a cocktail: Pull out the flutes for a champagne night. Make the bubbles even more festive by adding an ounce of berry vodka and an ounce and a half of pomegranate or cranberry juice to three and a half ounces of champagne. This will be a perfect New Year’s Eve Sparkler. (Recipe fromLiquor.com)
Paint a memory jar: With all the crazy going on in 2020, it was hard to remember the good things that happened. Let’s not allow that to happen in 2021. Create a memory jar for the year. Every time something good happens, write it down on a little piece of paper, fold it up, and put it in the jar. On the eve of 2022, read through all of your good memories to remember the positives of the year.
Ball Themed Dinner: One tradition that always stands with New Year’s Eve is watching the ball drop. Having a theme to your dinner doesn’t mean it needs to be fancy. Have an appetizer of a cheese ball or mozzarella balls, followed by meatball subs for dinner and cake pops for dessert! Roll the cake pops in sparkly sprinkles to make it look like the ball from NYC!
2020 Games: Click here to print out playing cards for a 2020 game. Invite your friends to a Zoom party, play some music, and use these cards to discuss the most embarrassing moment of 2020, your proudest moment, and more. Stay on for a dance party at the strike of midnight!
Celebrate around the world: Staying up until midnight is fun when you are out with friends, but staying awake that long can be hard at home. Celebrate at 8 p.m. with Australia or at 10 p.m. with Japan.
