The Vineyards at Dodon Reintroduce Tours and Tastings
It has been wonderful to see so many club members and visitors this summer. Evening picnic hours provide cooler temperatures than midday. Guests also enjoy that extraordinary time between six and eight when the light on the vineyard is just right. Our team affectionately calls this “the golden hour.”We have reintroduced tours and tastings for those who wish to learn more about the farm and vineyard. As always, the tour’s focus is on agroecological farming practices, soil restoration, and diverse landscapes. While exploring the fermentation and barrel rooms, we describe the winemaking process. A self-guided tasting follows the tour at your reserved table. Appointments are available most Saturdays & Sundays at 2 pm and at other times by request.
Order Plants From Adkins Arboretum Today
Ordering is underway for the Arboretum's Fall Native Plant Sale! Fall is the best time to plant, and our extensive selection of landscape-ready native trees, shrubs, perennials, ferns, vines, and grasses will add beauty, habitat, and diversity to your landscape. To provide the healthiest plants possible, we will continue to conduct our sales online with scheduled pickups. This process allows us to efficiently care for the plants and protect them from wind and animals. There will be no shopping at the Arboretum. Orders will be accepted today through August 17 and fulfilled via scheduled, timed pickup slots in mid-September. Because of this short order window, shoppers are urged to place their orders soon.
Action Annapolis Teams Up with Local Artists and Youth for #GoVoteAnnapolis
Action Annapolis in partnership with Maryland Hall’s ArtReach Program and Annapolis artist/activist Comacell Brown, Jr., is developing a video project, #GoVoteAnnapolis, which will feature interviews with candidates running to serve on the Annapolis City Council. These videos will be posted by early September and distributed throughout the city leading up to the September 21 primary city elections. Action Annapolis is focused on engaging voters and on expanding the voting base, especially in communities that are often underrepresented and tend to have the lowest voter turnout. Action Annapolis is not only focused on voters getting to know their candidates better—what their priorities are and how they intend to address them—but is also interested in helping Annapolitans learn what voters in neighboring communities are most concerned about. Donations to help support the work of the artists and help finance this important initiative can be made at GoFundMe.com/#GoVoteAnnapolis Follow along with this Action Annapolis initiative via the #GoVoteAnnapolis hashtag on social media. Residents are encouraged to share their own voices by tagging their own posts about the local elections with #GoVoteAnnapolis.
Blood Drive at Sheraton Inner Harbor
The American Red Cross invites eligible blood donors to step up to the plate and give the gift of life with the Baltimore Orioles and the American Red Cross on Saturday, August 14th. Donors will have the opportunity to roll up a sleeve between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Sheraton Inner Harbor, 300 South Charles Street Baltimore, MD 21201. The Red Cross continues to experience a severe blood shortage that is negatively affecting blood product availability for patients at hospitals across the country. Donors of all blood types – especially type O – are urged to make an appointment to give now and help ensure hospital shelves are stocked with blood products over the summer months and beyond.
