The Department of Aging and Disabilities announces upcoming Caregiver Educational Workshop in October
Annapolis, MD - On Thursday, October 5th, at 6:30 p.m., Mary Chaput will present “Understanding Dementia Behaviors.” As an individual with dementia loses their ability to communicate with words, behavior becomes a powerful form of communication. Often, it is an individual’s only way to communicate their needs, their feelings, and their pain. Sometimes these behaviors pose challenges for the caregiver. This workshop will identify some common triggers that can cause reactions in individuals living with dementia, as well as discuss how changing our reaction to our loved one can help everyone have a better day! The workshop will be held at the Annapolis Senior Activity Center, 119 S. Villa Avenue, Annapolis.
On Tuesday, October 24th, at 2:00 p.m., Mary Chaput will present “Compassionate Touch®." Compassionate Touch® is designed to ease physical behaviors and emotional distress and empowers care partners and other caregivers a way to connect with their loved one in a calm and comforting manner. Join us in learning and practicing the basic techniques of providing focused, gentle touch along with a compassionate presence. Bring a partner/friend to practice and share the experience! This workshop will be held at the Hein Building, 7320 Ritchie Highway, Glen Burnie.

On Wednesday, October 18th, at 6:30 pm, an in-person Dementia Live® workshop will be held at the North County/Hein Office (7320 Ritchie Highway, Glen Burnie). The Dementia Live® workshop is a high-impact dementia simulation experience that immerses participants into life with dementia, resulting in a deeper understanding of what it is like to live with cognitive impairment and sensory changes. The workshop will be held at the North County Office/Hein Building at 7320 Ritchie Highway, Glen Burnie. You can register for this workshop by calling 410-222-4375 or 410-222-4339. Space is limited.
These workshops are presented at no cost to the public through the National Family Caregiver Support Program of the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities.
