ANNAPOLIS, MD - The Annapolis Department of Transportation (ADOT) is proud to announce initiatives for National Pedestrian Safety Month, aimed at creating a safer and more accessible transportation system for everyone. ADOT invites the community to join in the mission to enhance safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and other vulnerable road users.
In October, ADOT is raising awareness among the many motorists who travel the streets of Annapolis, emphasizing the importance of pedestrian infrastructure. Walking and biking are not just convenient modes of transportation, they are the most affordable and sustainable way to connect our residents and visitors to essential services, including transit, jobs, healthcare, and attractions like Downtown City Dock, the US Naval Academy, and Truxtun Park.
Over the last five years, City staff has received millions of dollars in state and federal grants to connect the disconnected segments of bicycle and pedestrian paths and greenways, as outlined in the 2011 Bicycle Master Plan. ADOT is committed to ensuring that every individual, regardless of age or ability, has access to safe pathways. By improving pedestrian and biking infrastructure, we can ensure that Annapolis remains a vibrant, welcoming city for all.
Join ADOT in their efforts to make walking and biking in Annapolis safer and more enjoyable. Together, we can create a community where everyone can stroll and roll freely, safely, and confidently. Together, let’s make Annapolis a safer place for everyone!
