Annapolis, MD - Pete Smith, a Marine and a leading candidate for Anne Arundel County Executive, completed his 50-mile walk across the entire length of Anne Arundel County in 19.75 hours on Saturday, April 11.
“It wasn’t easy,” said Smith, who persevered through hamstring soreness for much of the day. “But providing leadership that works for Anne Arundel County and connecting our communities to solve challenges won’t be easy. We wanted to show that we can do hard things, and that when we set a goal, we reach it.”
The vision for the Walk for Anne Arundel County came from Pete’s 28 years as an active duty and reservist Marine, who was deployed to both Afghanistan and Iraq.
He began the walk at 12:01 a.m. in North Beach, just over the Calvert County line, and streamed hourly live videos as he travelled. They can be found at @petesmithmd. He was accompanied the entire route by Everett L. Sesker, Sheriff of Anne Arundel County. The group reached the boundary line with Baltimore City at 7:44 p.m.
