BALTIMORE, MD – The Postal Service is asking customers – in ZIP Code areas beginning with 210-219 – to help those in need by leaving non-perishable food donations at their mailbox for their letter carrier to pick up during the Harvest for the Hungry Food Drive. The drive begins Saturday, March 1st and continues through Saturday, March 8th. Customers can also deposit their donations in designated containers at their local Post Office.
Harvest for the Hungry is a volunteer effort that strives to collect enough food to supply the needy in Maryland with food 365 days a year. The Harvest for the Hungry Food Drive was founded by Larry Adam in 1987. This is the first year without Larry Adam, and we hope the public will help carry forth his legacy and give generously.
The Postal Service is entering its 25th year with supporting Harvest for the Hungry Food Drive, and we are pleased to continue that support. To participate in the Harvest for the Hungry Food Drive, residents are encouraged to leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods, such as canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal next to their mailbox prior to the time of regular mail delivery on March 1st through March 8th. Letter carriers will collect these food donations as they deliver the mail and take them to their local food bank or pantry.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
