Believe it or not, 21% of the people in the state of Maryland are unable to provide regular, healthy meals for their families and 10% of the state live beneath the poverty line. According to Feeding America, 16,920 children are living in food insecure households throughout Anne Arundel County.
Services from the Heart is a nonprofit who's goal is to provide children in need with weekly food backpacks over the weekend and the holidays. Services from the Heart provides breakfasts and lunches for children who rely on getting the food from their school. Services from the Heart looks at the number of children in a household, employment status of their parents, requests for help and more to determine the children they accept into their program.
Just because school is not in-person, doesnt mean that these students don't need the food anymore. Now with virtual learning, over the weekends, and over holidays children still need someone to look out for their intake and provide them with the nutrients they need.
Get involved to help these kids by volunteering, donating food, and by hosting a food drive. Click here to learn the best ways to get involved this season.
