Mayor, Officials Host Signing Ceremony for Transfer of Title of Burtis House from State of Maryland to City of Annapolis
Annapolis, MD - Officials from the State of Maryland and the City of Annapolis will host a signing ceremony on Tuesday to celebrate the transfer of the historic Burtis House from ownership by the State of Maryland/Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to the City of Annapolis.
The Burtis House is an historic 19th Century waterman’s cottage along the waterfront in the State capital. Plans for the property include safeguarding the building from coastal flooding by elevating the structure and adding specific sea-level rise resiliency components and conducting archeological investigations before incorporating the property as a key component in the larger revitalization and resiliency plans for City Dock. The redevelopment work is being conducted by the National Park Service (NPS) Chesapeake Office in partnership with Preservation Maryland and the City of Annapolis through grant funding from the Maryland Heritage Areas Program, the Maryland General Assembly and the National Park Service Chesapeake Gateways Program.
