The Chesapeake Bay is home to hundreds of species of birds; some year-round, others passing through on their migrations north or south. Many of these species call the Severn River watershed their home, including Great Blue Herons, Bald Eagles, Wood Ducks, and a bounty of Warblers. Although bird populations have declined dramatically in the past 50 years, there are still abundant opportunities to observe birds in the Severn. Join Jack Turner (aka Jack Wildlife) of the Severn River Association to explore the stunning diversity of our local feathered friends, find out how you can help birds in the Severn, and learn about their fascinating behaviors and habits.
The presentation will cover bird basics, birding ethics, photography tips, bird feeder tricks, and a whole host of other interesting and surprising facts!
Bio: Jack Turner is an Environmental Scientist and Wildlife Photographer. Growing up near the Severn River in Annapolis, Jack has been documenting local wildlife for over 5 years. He shares his images and videos with facts and information about some of the most iconic Chesapeake Bay species to drive a conversation around wildlife conservation and environmental stewardship. Jack uses his camera as a storytelling tool; bringing audiences inside the secretive lives of birds, mammals, reptiles, and insects to show us intimate moments and reveal fascinating truths about the flora and fauna with which we share our natural spaces. Jack's work has been featured in local exhibits, publications, and, most recently, was selected as the 'Fan Favorite' in the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Annual Photo Contest. Jack lives in Eastport.
