Wrap plenty of holiday fun, food and family-friendly festivities into one glorious weekend at this year's 33rd annual Christmas in St. Michaels, set for Friday, Dec. 13th through Sunday, Dec. 15th. -The small scale of this historic 19th-century village makes it an ideal setting for staging holiday happening for all ages, many within walking distance of downtown St. Michaels. Popular traditions include a Tour of Homes decorated for the holidays, held on both Saturday (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and Sunday (11 a.m. to 4 p.m); and a Friday night Yuletide Party from 6 to 9 p.m., held this year at The Inn at Perry Cabin.
This year's Tour will feature four homes in the historic district and three just outside of town. Shuttle service is available. Several of this year's events will carry out a special "Santa" theme, honoring long-time volunteers, Tom and Abby Campi, who have played the role of Santa & Mrs. Claus for the past 21 years. New this year is a one-mile Santa Dash, a costumed fun run to kick off the popular Christmas parade down Talbot Street, starting at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14th. Breakfast with Santa will be served at 8 a.m. Saturday, this year featuring a larger venue at the St. Michaels Inn. Santa's Wonderland will open after the parade until 2:30 p.m. at the St. Michaels School campus. It will feature a Santa visit, games, crafts and a Secret Santa Shop with small gifts (and pricing) for young children to choose items for their parents.
Two holiday shopping venues will be open all weekend on historic St. Mary's Square. Browse Marketplace, located in Granite Lodge, for a hand-crafted selection of shell and sea glass artwork, tile jewelry, table runners & centerpieces, decorated lanterns, wind chimes, outdoor decor and homemade holiday food. Next door, at the Women's Club, tour a display of Gingerbread Houses and other creations for sale and vote on your favorite! Companion weekend events sponsored by local churches include a Christmas greenery bazaar, a Saturday Eastern Shore Dinner and two holiday choir concerts.
For additional shopping, St. Michaels stores will be decked out with holiday lights, decorations and gift selections. More than a dozen restaurants offer a variety of dining opportunities over the weekend as well. Tickets for the Tour of Homes are $25 in advance or $30 during the event weekend; both also include free admission to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels (normally a $15 cost) and half-price ($5) admission to the Classic Motor Museum in St. Michaels.
To purchase Tour tickets, visit christmasinstmichaels.org or pick up at The Christmas Shop, Charisma, Chesapeake Bay Outfitters or Chesapeake Trading. Company in St. Michaels. Reservations for Breakfast with Santa are $12 for adults and $10 for children, and must be made in advance.
