For people who suffer with missing teeth or loose fitting dentures there are some amazing options available. We can now place implants and attach fixed teeth (non removable permanent teeth) the same day of surgery. The healing and precision is greatly enhanced by the use of modern technology. With the use of a CBCT (cone beam cat scan) we can fabricate a surgical guide and temporary teeth prior to the implant placement. The CBCT shows us where all your vital structures are, such as your nerves, and if you have enough bone for implants.
Patients call our office and schedule for an implant consultation. We then perform an occlusal analysis or “bite” analysis. We take models of your upper and lower teeth with the use of a scanner. Digital photographs help us plan what your new smile will look like. Next we help you coordinate an appointment with the oral surgeon. Once we have the CBCT and models of your teeth we can proceed with the planning process. For some patients who already have dentures we make a new set prior to surgery. For patients with existing teeth this may or may not be necessary.
Once the planning is complete we can schedule you for surgery. Dr. Esposito works with the top local surgeons and an expertly trained lab technician. The entire team meets you at surgery. You are sedated and any remaining teeth are removed. The fixed teeth are attached to the implants. Most patients only experience minor discomfort after. During healing it is important you remain on a soft diet. After 3 months the final teeth are fabricated. They are both durable and esthetic. Most importantly, now you can enjoy all the foods you love.
Fixed teeth may not be for everyone but there are many removable options with implant as well. There are bar-over dentures that are quite retentive and attractive on 4 implants or locator “snaps” on 2 implants. Dr. Esposito can customize an implant option that works for your budget, health and lifestyle.
As a member of the Advanced Implant Dental Study Club Dr. Esposito keeps up on the latest technology and research on implants.
