It used to be that a performance car came with a huge price tag, from a posh brand, but not with a whole lot of car. So, what makes a car so special nowadays? It’s the performance yes, but also a certain degree of comfort. Now, before we discuss what the Genesis G70 can and can’t do, let’s introduce the car.
The Genesis G70 is one of the newest entries into the compact luxury sport sedan segment. Starting at $35,895, its ambition is to lure you away from the likes of a BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, and Alfa Romeo’s Giulia, each of which hovers around the same price point. The Genesis G70 says “Look at me, I beg you to take me to work!” with its stylish front grille. And it headlights seemingly sing the Black Kids’ 2008 hit song “I’m Making Eyes At You.” Although it doesn’t have a European look to it, it is a beauty to look at because it has a futuristic style. Its lower center opening functions as an air curtain boosting its aerodynamics.

It goes 0-60 mph in 6.2 seconds thanks to its 2.0L turbocharged engine. It’s quick off the line, cranking out 252 horsepower and if you want to bump it up, the stick version will get you 3 horses more! Of course, you can get the 3.3L upgraded engine version with 365 horsepower going 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds. As for fuel economy, the former gets you 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, while the latter gets you 18/26 mpg respectively.

The G70 comes with five standard drive mode settings (Sport, Comfort, Smart, Eco, and Custom), but if you’d like a little more grip you can upgrade to all-wheel drive, which is available for both engines.
Facing off against the giants, like BMW and Audi, the G70 engine performance is striving for what these established brands already do well, but the car is still fun to drive and provides a different feeling than what a BMW and Audi offers. There’s more to this car than what’s under the bonnet. Its interior will leave you in awe.

There’s is a clear difference to any car enthusiast between sport and luxury interiors, but what if you could have both? There is comfort everywhere with the seats having a generous amount of padding and craftsmanship around the trim, knobs, and buttons. There is an 8-inch touch screen with integrated Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. A driver will be able to access key functions from the center console while on the move, to accommodate any changes the driver desires. It does the clear basics of what a luxury sports sedan should do technology-wise and it shows that Genesis spent more time and money on performance.
Again, the G70 offers close to what the BMW 3 Series is already doing. Having a 2.0L turbocharged engine and 4 cylinders comes at a price, and that price is $35,895, while the BMW Series 3 starts at $43,245 and the Audi A4 at $37,400.
