The Summit School
The Summit School is one of the few schools in Maryland exclusively serving bright students with dyslexia and other learning differences in grades 1-8. Summit students are bright children whose dyslexia or other learning differences present challenges that have previously prevented them from finding success in other schools.
Why Do Parents Choose Summit?
- Students are engaged in active multisensory learning, using research-based teaching strategies.
- Faculty is trained to use methodologies specifically designed for students with learning differences.
- Small classes grouped by skill level allow for differentiated instruction for each student.
- Measurable outcomes are achieved through continuous progress monitoring and benchmark testing.
- Summit addresses the whole child by teaching self-advocacy, confidence, and social-emotional wellness.
- Life-changing impacts are made possible through students gaining the strategies, skills, and tools they need to succeed.
When a child struggles in school, often they are impacted socially or emotionally by their academic challenges. Summit addresses the whole child and teaches self-advocacy, confidence, and social-emotional wellness. Parent-school partnerships are key to student success. Communication with parents is frequent and collaborative.
Measurable Outcomes with Life-Changing Impacts
The Summit School’s expertise lies in closing the gap in literacy, math, written language and organization. If your child is not progressing in their current school or has a learning difference such as dyslexia, we invite you to learn more about how Summit teaches differently.
Continuous progress monitoring supports student growth and success. Summit employs Benchmark Testing three times per year to evaluate students, in math and reading, against specific grade-level standards and learning goals. The results give teachers actionable data and drive instruction for each student.
The Summit School experience is nothing short of life changing. Our student outcomes exceed national averages:
- 71% - National average graduation rate for students who have been classified with a specific learning disability.
- 84% - National average graduation rate for all students.
- 98% - High school graduation rate for Summit students.
When students leave The Summit School, they go on to high school and most go to college. They become successful, confident adults who are able to pursue their interests and goals. Read more about Success after Summit.
