Easton, MD - Registration is now open for Talbot County’s Spring 2025 Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) classes. This free disaster preparedness program, hosted by Talbot County Department of Emergency Services (DES), equips residents with essential skills to care for themselves, their families, and their neighbors during emergencies until professional responders arrive.
Classes begin on Monday, February 24, 2025, and run for seven consecutive Mondays, concluding on April 7, 2025. Sessions will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, with participation in all sessions required to complete the program.
Program Coordinator Madison Loker highlights exciting new features of this session's CERT program: “For the first time, we’re incorporating an in-person search dog demonstration, "Stop the Bleed" training, and an opportunity for participants to become CPR certified through the course. I’m thrilled to share these enhancements and look forward to receiving valuable feedback from participants.”
Limited spots remain; register soon to secure a place in this impactful program. Designed for citizens of all skill levels, CERT provides hands-on training in disaster preparedness, fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
“This is a great class to learn how to help your community,” said Kitty Nelson, former CERT participant. “The class was engaging and fun and I met a lot of local people. I’m glad I took this course and can be part of a community team when needed.”
"Having more residents CERT certified helps make our community safer and stronger during emergencies," said County Council President Chuck Callahan. "These individuals can really make a difference when needed and show others how important it is to be ready for disasters."
