ANNAPOLIS, MD — The Light House in Annapolis was recently awarded a $50,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County (CFAAC) to support its prevention and stabilization efforts for families who are at risk of homelessness. The award comes from the Fund for Anne Arundel, a fund of CFAAC.
“The Light House continues to serve record numbers of individuals and families in need,” stated Interim Executive Director, Jenny Crawford. “In particular, we have seen an alarming increase in our Safe Harbour Resource Center, which provides services to those at imminent risk of losing their housing and those that are currently unsheltered. In fact, over the past six years, Safe Harbour has provided services to over 5,000 households. The homelessness prevention and diversion services our staff provide to these struggling neighbors are vital and work to remove the barriers that prevent them from maintaining safe and stable lives. This much needed funding from the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County’s Fund for Anne Arundel will help ensure that we can continue to serve as many families in need as possible.”

For over 35 years, The Light House has been providing basic needs services for neighbors struggling with homelessness and poverty. Last year alone, The Light House provided emergency and transitional housing for 228 individuals including 21 children and provided homelessness prevention and diversion services to 974 households through their Safe Harbour Resource Center. The Light House also provided over 86,000 meals to individuals and families struggling with homelessness and food insecurity and their Client Choice Pantry was visited by community members in need over 2,000 times. The generous funding from the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County’s Fund for Anne Arundel will enable The Light House to continue their legacy of serving vulnerable community members.
