ANNAPOLIS, MD — The Light House in Annapolis was recently awarded a $20,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation. This grant award directly funds The Light House’s many homelessness prevention and support services and provides much needed assistance as the organization continues to serve an increased number of individuals and families in our community.
“The difficulties of the last three years have hit our Light House community particularly hard and demand for our services have increased by over 25%,” stated Executive Director, Heather Cassity. “Mental health issues continue to rise, housing and rental inventory is historically low, and inflation further challenges low-income households who are working to make ends meet. To keep up with this increase in demand, our Light House operating costs have increased substantially as well. We as an organization are also experiencing further strain due to inflation and the trend of charitable giving and in-kind donations decreasing nationwide. Our supporters and partners have never been more vital. This funding from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation will help ensure that we can continue to provide hope and basic needs services to our most vulnerable neighbors. We couldn’t be more grateful for the many ways they have supported and stood by us over the years!”
For over 30 years, The Light House has been providing vital basic needs services for neighbors struggling with homelessness and poverty. Last year alone, The Light House provided emergency and transitional housing for 261 individuals including 33 children. In addition, their Safe Harbour Resource Center staff assisted over 300 individuals at risk of losing their housing and successfully prevented them from becoming homeless. The Light House also distributed over 180,000 pounds of healthy pantry items and provided over 82,000 meals to individuals and families struggling with homelessness and food insecurity. The generous funding from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation will enable The Light House to continue to serve as many vulnerable individuals and families as they possibly can.
