What: Shell Shaking
When: Most Fridays, May 10—September 6
Where: CBF's Maryland Oyster Restoration Center4800 Atwell RoadShady Side, MDEssential to our oyster restoration efforts is cleaning the shells by shaking off dirt and debris—a process we call shell shaking. Without cleaning the oyster shells, we could potentially lose millions of healthy oyster larvae as they attach to debris, rather than the shell, and are later washed out into the silt. Shell shaking is somewhat physical work and is not recommend for folks with bad backs or other health concerns. However, it is vital to our oyster restoration operations and an excellent opportunity to help promote the return of the oyster population. So come on out and break a sweat while saving the Bay!
Join us to shake some shell! Please wear closed-toed shoes and bring a water bottle and a bagged lunch. We will provide snacks and drinking water and conclude the day with a tour of our Oyster Restoration Facility. Questions? Contact me at PBeall@cbf.org or 443-482-2065.Hope to see you soon!
