Easton, MD - It’s an intriguing mix—bagpipes, haggis, scotch, kilts, poetry…and charity. It’s all on the menu for the upcoming Robert Burns Supper. The supper is a fundraiser for the St. Andrews Foundation of the Eastern Shore. SAFES Chair Donna Cantor says, “All are welcome, and you don’t have to be Scottish or clad in tartan to enjoy the fun.”
Robert Burns, the celebrated Scottish poet and lyricist, was born on January 25,1759. So, it’s only fitting that the 2025 Robert Burns Supper is slated for January 25 at the Oxford Community Center.
SAFES is the non-profit arm of the St. Andrews Society of the Eastern Shore. SAFES funds scholarships, promotes further appreciation of Scottish culture and history, and has a broader mission to provide charitable support for needy causes. The Foundation is now raising funds to send deserving local students to a summer study program in Scotland, and to send budding musicians to bagpipe camp in North Carolina, potentially life-changing experiences. Cantor says this is just the beginning, “SAFES is hoping to expand and grow similar programs with the help of generous donors and fundraising events like the Robert Burns Supper.”
The 2025 Supper will be catered by Ian Fleming, former owner of the Robert Morris Inn. Guests will enjoy a gourmet dinner, complimentary wine, a serving of whisky to toast the haggis, and a cash bar. Entertainment will include performances of selected Burns poems and bagpiping.
You may have found yourself singing Auld Land Syne on New Year’s Eve. Cantor says, “You can thank Robert Burns for that one, and help those who need a hand by attending his annual dinner.”
More information and tickets can be found at www.sases.net. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) registered under the Mid-Shore Community Foundation.
