Despite the cold, wintery weather, 250 people attended the 10th Annual GumboFest on Sunday, Fe uary 15th, presented by Friends of The Light House.
Dozens of Creole-inspired recipes were sampled by both the event judges and guests to determine the three best-tasting gumbo dishes. Top honors in Judges' Choice went to the Hotel, Culinary Arts, and Tourism Program at Anne Arundel Community College, while the winner of People's Choice was the DoubleTree Hotel.
New this year, a “non-profressionals” category was established with one entry - the father/son team, Jim and Will Bird. The judges were so impressed with their gumbo, the duo was awarded second place.
Held at the DoubleTree Hotel in Annapolis, GumboFest raised almost $5,000 for The Light House: A Homeless Prevention Support Center in Annapolis, to help with operational expenses.
The 12th Annual Friends of The Light House Golf Tournament will be held Thursday, June 18th at Renditions in Davidsonville.
