Fifteen years ago, Dick Franyo hit on a novel theme for the Boardyard Beach Bash in Annapolis: something that played on the “Parrothead” Jimmy Buffett fans. Time has proven his theme a roaring success.
Since the annual event started in 2006 at Franyo’s Boatyard Bar & Grill, it has raised about $1.1 million for the Annapolis Maritime Museum, a nonprofit which educates the public on the area’s rich maritime heritage, The September event brought in a record $135,000 this year through ticket sales and sponsorships.
You also could call the event a catered concert. Various members of Buffett’s Coral Reefers Band highlighted the slew of performances. Singer/song writers John Frinzi and Tom Corcoran were also featured.
The sold-out event now held at the Maritime Museum attracted 730 people, who enjoyed views of the Chesapeake Bay, signature Painkiller drinks and margaritas, and a VIP party with a buffet.
