The Chesapeake Bay Maritime held its signature fundraiser, the 17th Annual Boating Party “Party on the Miles, Big Easy Style” on Saturday, September 13th.
Nearly 500 guests partied “Big Easy Style” to support the museum's education programs and commemorate the final battle of the War of 1812 - the Battle of New Orleans. Patrons were greeted with Mardi Gras beads and masks, and offered a signature “Miles Madness” hurricane drink.
Event co-chairman Fred Israel said at the Battle of New Orleans, General Andrew Jackson, aided by Jean Lafite and his band of privateers, led the outnumbered Americans to victory. The Treaty of Ghent had been signed two weeks prior to the battle, but the news had not yet reached across the Atlantic.
“The maritime museum is about to cele ate its 50th anniversary, and we would not be where we are today with the generosity of people like you,” said Richard Tilghman, chairman of the board, as he welcomed the crowd.
Plans for the 18th Annual Boating Party on September 12, 2015, are already in motion to cele ate the Museum's 50th birthday with a “throw back to the 60's” theme. Call Rene Stevenson at 410-745-4950 for reservations.
