It was an impeccable display of beards, mustaches, and other facial fuzz at Cover your Chin for Charity's Closing Ceremonies, held in mid-January at the Armory in Easton.
The event, which was established two years ago on a whim by three friends, challenges contestants to grow out their facial hair for three months while seeking contributions to be donated to three local nonprofit organizations.
Around 150 people attended the party, which boasted complimentary beer, wine, and food, a fabulous silent auction, and lots of dancing, thanks to DJ Erik "Groundhog" Higgins.
Contestants competed in three categories - beard, mustache, and partial. Henner Gibbons-Neff reigned supreme in the full beard category; Jon Grow won "best mustache" for his impressive Fu Manchu; and Andrew Southworth received top honors in the "partial" category with some profound 19th-Century lamb chops. As for the grand champion "King of Fundraising," Eric Milhollan was crowned after raising more than $1,600.
Thanks to CYC's sponsors and generous donors, the event raised about $14,000 for Camp Possibilities, Baywater Animal Rescue, and the Veterans Fund program at the Mental Health Association in Talbot County.
This year's "shave date" is scheduled for Saturday, October 17th, with the Closing Ceremonies to be held on Saturday, January 16th, 2016.
