A large and happy crowd of hundreds of guests enjoyed a great time and raised money for veterans, children, and pets at the 5th Annual Cover Your Chin for Charity on Saturday, January 20, at the Waterfowl Building in Easton.
This year's competition raised $9,285 to support Care Packs of Talbot County, $11,200 for Mental Health Association of the Eastern Shore's Veterans Assistance Fund, $4,235 for the Tree of Life Pet Sanctuary, and $4,150 for the Nate Southworth Humanitarian Fund, named after the father of one of the founders.
Prizes were awarded in the categories of partial beard (Councilman Ron Engle), full beard (Josh Clow), mustache (Mike Harris and Clay Buritsch), and existing beard (Howard Bogac). The king of the evening, Ron Vener, received over 90 separate donations. What began as a joke among friends about facial hair agging rights has grown into a yearly social event enjoyed by a fast-growing group of supporters and the charity has given away over $100,000 in its first five years.
