The first Farm to Table fundraising dinner hosted by Paige and John Evans and Zeke Warner raised more than $23,000 for Compass Kids.
Despite the steamy summer weather more than 200 Compass Regional Hospice supporters gathered for this elegant event held on Sunday, June 14th, on the Evans' waterfront property.
The dance band 21 Horses entertained guests who bid on silent auction items and enjoyed the Corsica River view. The gourmet meal, catered by Magnolia Caterers, featured food raised on local farms and supplied by Chesapeake Bay seafood purveyors.
Compass Kids is a family-centered program with the goal of helping parents secure the care and resources they need when a child is diagnosed with a chronic, complex and often life-limiting illness. This program also offers support for children and families grieving the death of a loved one. One of the most popular grief support programs offered through Compass Kids is Camp New Dawn, a summer retreat for children, teens and families, who learn how to express their feelings about the loss of a loved one.
Zeke Warner and Paige Evans both benefited from Camp New Dawn. Warner's daughters attended camp after his wife died in 2000. Paige attended one of the first grief camps 20 years ago after the death of her grandfather.
Warner says, “Camp New Dawn helped my girls see and understand that losing someone they loved didn't happen just to them. It takes a lot of money to run hospice and we want to make sure that Compass Regional Hospice has the money it needs to do the work they do in our community.”
Paige Evans acknowledges the many local companies that supported the Farm to Table fundraiser. She says, “Our generous sponsors made it possible for us to exceed our fundraising goal.”
Premier sponsors for the Farm to Table event included Graul's Market, J.C. Warner Co., Dover Rent All Tents & Events, Ebb Tide Tent & Party Rentals, Pierson's Comfort Group, Price Rentals & Events, and Cara Smith Designs.
Kenda Leager, development officer for Compass Regional Hospice, says, “Fundraising is essential for our grief support services because many of them are offered free of charge. On behalf of the children and families served through Compass Kids, we thank Paige and John Evans and Zeke Warner for their support. We are especially grateful that they have decided to host another Farm to Table dinner party in 2016.”
