The Friends of the Londontowne Symphony Orchestra recently held its annual gala at The Byzantium in Annapolis.
The evening offered a delicious buffet dinner, complimentary beer and wine, and an incredible silent auction that boasted tickets to theatre performances and sports games, portrait sessions, jewelry, music lessons -- even the chance conduct the National Anthem with the Londontowne Symphony Orchestra at the season opening in September! The highlight of the event, however, was the 30-minute performance by the LSO. The group, led by conductor Anne Binneweg, performed several pieces, including excerpts of Bizet's Carmen and Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake Suite.
The LSO is a community orchestra with a growing reputation simply because, under the leadership of Binneweg, the musicians perform like a professional orchestra. The orchestra provides high-quality classical and light classical music at a very affordable price.
Next year's gala will take place in March 2016. The LSO's last concert of the season will be at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6th at Broadneck High School. It will feature a trumpet concerto and Brahms' Symphony No. 1.
