About 2,000 people attended Party on the Point: Cele ating 50 Years on the Bay, held at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels on Saturday, May 23rd.
The festival kicked off a year-long 50th anniversary cele ation for the museum, which opened to the public on May 22, 1965. Party on the Point was highlighted with the opening of the major temporary exhibition, A Broad Reach: 50 Years of Collecting. Motown sounds of the XPDs; lots of Chesapeake-related family activities, including Oyster Jenga, build-a-boat, and much more; scenic boat rides aboard Winnie Estelle and many of the museum's floating fleet; local flavors and fare; and maritime arts and other vendors.
Though the event was more of a cele ation, rather than a traditional fundraiser for the nonprofit organization, sponsorship and other proceeds from the event benefit the children and adults served by the CBMM's education, boat restoration, and exhibition programs.
The festival was generously sponsored by Eastern Shore Tents & Events and ProParties, with media sponsors including What's Up? Media, The Star Democrat, 103.1 FM WRNR, 96.7 WCEI, and 94.3 WINX FM radio. The Easton Amateur Radio Society transmitted live from the event, using the call letters W3M. Rosie’s Tavern was generously sponsored by the Lyon Distilling Company of St. Michaels.
