More than 200 guests enjoyed an evening of fine wines and Tuscan-inspired food pairings at the Wye River Upper School's Una Notte D'Italia on Saturday, November 7th.
Harry and Virginia (Stoney and Jij) Duffey were honored for their long-time support of Wye River Upper School and their outstanding community leadership. The couple received proclamations from the Maryland House of Delegates and the Maryland Senate congratulating them on this honor. Photos and testimonials to the Duffeys' accomplishments were shared in a thoughtful video, created and produced by Wye River photo/video class students.
“The Duffeys have made a tremendous impact on this school and our community,” says Paige Evans, event chair and member of school's board of trustees. “I was honored to chair an event that recognized these outstanding individuals.”
Virginia Capute, Susan Edwards, Rose Greytak, and Susan Pendleton also served on the planning committee.
Guests enjoyed wines selected by wine expert, Philip Bernot of Wishing Well Liquors and Maurizio Farro of Cantinierre Imports. Magnolia caterers prepared a variety of Tuscan –inspired foods. A silent auction was an additional highlight for guests - featuring diamond earrings from Paula's Fine Jewelry as well as a vacation stay in Bonita Springs Florida and jewelry created by the school's students.
“The evening was a delightful gathering of friends of the school, the Duffeys and community residents. We are grateful to the committee, our sponsors and our guests for showing their appreciation for Wye River Upper School and for the Duffeys. Jij and Stoney have been long-time friends of the school and many other non-profits in the Centreville community. We wanted them to know that they are greatly appreciated,” says Chrissy Aull, Founding Executive Director.
Platinum and diamond sponsors for the event include Virginia Capute, CS2, Debbie & Don Pusey, Wye Financial & Trust, 1880 Bank, CNB, Graul's Market St. Michaels, Alan & Penny Griffith, Beverly & Richard Tilghman, and Willow Construction.
