Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum hosts Board of Governors’ Annual Meeting and Reception

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum recently hosted its Board of Governors’ annual meeting, which included a reception along CBMM’s waterfront campus in St. Michaels. The June 27th meeting included speakers addressing CBMM’s impact to students and the oader community, including presentations from CBMM President Kristen Greenaway and Director of Education Kate Livie.
Topics included an overview of CBMM’s educational achievements for the current year and the ways annual fund and capital campaign donations are making a difference in expanding CBMM’s mission through the non-profit’s educational, restoration, and exhibition programming.
Board of Governors, Friends Board, staff members and their partners were invited, with a post-meeting reception held waterside on Fogg’s Landing and catered by Garden & Garnish of Trappe.
First Annual Julianne Rosela Memorial Golf Tournament
On Saturday, August 20th, The Julianne Rosela Foundation hosted its first annual Julianne Rosela Memorial Golf Tournament at the Queenstown Harbor Golf Course. This fun event included a beautiful day on the links, continental eakfast, an awards picnic with live music, silent auction, raffle, and much more!
Julianne Rosela was a fun loving little girl with a lot of spirit. She was always the first to help. She loved to learn, read, and be outdoors. There wasn’t a food she wouldn’t try. Julianne lost her life at age seven doing something she loved to do. The outpouring of love and support from the Kent Island community was and is the most inspirational testament to the quality of and the everlasting meaning of her life.
Proceeds from the event directly benefited Kent Island High School students in Julianne’s name in the form of college sponsorships. Proceeds also directly benefited families that are affected by tragic accidents.
Helfenbein Named Board Chair for Compass Regional Hospice

Tom Helfenbein of Stevensville was named chair of the Compass Regional Hospice board of directors. He steps into this leadership role after serving on the board since 2010. Helfenbein follows Kathy Deoudes, who still remains an active member of the Compass Regional Hospice board.
In his professional life Helfenbein was the President and CEO of Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Homes. He started his career in the funeral business with Hubbard Funeral Homes in Baltimore, which inspired him to attend mortuary school to become a licensed funeral director. He later moved to the Eastern Shore, to partner with Hubbard, to operate a funeral business in Church Hill and Chester. Since then he has partnered with Newnam Funeral Home in Talbot County, Fellows Funeral Home in Kent County and Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home in Caroline County.
Through his work in the funeral service, Helfenbein has been especially dedicated to helping families heal after the loss of a loved one.
“I strongly believe that hospice should have been an accepted part of our culture a long time ago. The fact that we are able to help people maintain dignity at the end of their life is a wonderful thing,” said Helfenbein. “I have always viewed hospice as having the ‘best of the best’ employees and volunteers and to be chair of the board is certainly a privilege.”
