Each February 11, United Way of Central Maryland recognizes all the assistance their 211 Maryland United Way Helpline provides 24 hours a day, every day of the year. They've created special volunteer and other opportunities for you to help them celebrate 211 Day!
Make Follow-Up Calls for the 211 Helpline
The calls don’t stop—people need help with food, housing, health and childcare, transportation, and more. United Way wants to make sure they got the assistance they needed. Volunteer to follow up with callers by asking a few questions about the help they received. A short, online training session will be provided.
Provide Tech Support to Those Seeking Online Services
Many callers to our 211 Helpline have difficulty accessing the critical resources and services they need when they’re offered online only. Answer their call for help by volunteering to provide tech support for callers during times that work for you. Must have technology experience/background.
Make Care Kits for People Experiencing Homelessness
Sometimes the little things can make a big difference. Fill a large, resealable bag with basic personal care items like a toothbrush, toothpaste, travel shampoo, lotion, and small snack items, along with a 211 Helpline information card so people know where they can get help. Once you register, United Way will send you 211 Helpline cards to include in the kits.
Valentines for People Experiencing Homeless
Everyone deserves to feel a little love for Valentine’s Day. Brighten the day of people facing homelessness by making Valentines. REGISTER HERE for ideas on how to make the cards, and where to send them upon completion.
Support the 211 Helpline Call Center
The calls never stop for trained 211 specialists, who provide help and hope 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. 211 is a free, confidential helpline that connects people of all ages and from all communities with the essential resources and services they need.
Your donation can help answer the ever-growing number of calls for help received since the start of the pandemic—almost 200,000 last year.
