Annapolis, MD - Latosha Baldwin has been selected as the Director for USNA’s Class of 1963 Center for Academic Excellence, endowed by J. Ronald Terwilliger ’63 and classmates, effective September 9. Ms. Baldwin, who currently serves as the Executive Director of the Student Engagement and Achievement Center at Fort Valley State University in Georgia, emerged as the successful candidate from a nationwide search. The Center for Academic Excellence offers high quality support programs for all midshipmen seeking to improve their academic performance at USNA.
“We have high academic standards at USNA, which are necessary to prepare our graduates to become leaders in a world that is increasingly complex and rapidly evolving,” said Provost Samara Firebaugh. “The Center for Academic Excellence is critical in providing the support that our students need to succeed in this challenging environment.”
Ms. Baldwin has a bachelor's degree in social work from Jacksonville State University and a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Alabama A&M University. She has over 20 years of experience in student engagement and student support services at Fort Valley State, the University of the District of Columbia, and Calhoun Community College in Huntsville, Alabama.

I am eager to bring my experience and enthusiasm to this space while contributing to the ongoing success and growth of the U.S. Naval Academy and I look forward to making a meaningful impact.”
Established as the undergraduate college of the nation's naval service, the Naval Academy prepares young men and women to become officers of competence, character, and compassion in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Naval Academy midshipmen are active-duty members of the U.S. Navy. They undergo four years of rigorous education, graduating with bachelor of science degrees and commissions as ensigns in the Navy or second lieutenants in the Marine Corps. Graduates of the Naval Academy commit to a minimum of five years of service in the Navy or Marine Corps.
