Third Quarter: "As it reaches the three-quarter point in its month, the Moon once again shows us one side of its disc illuminated and the other side in darkness. However, the side that we saw dark at the first quarter phase is now the lit side."

Rockfish: A lot of fish are still being caught north of the bridge, but the schools are spread out now and are no longer concentrated in one area like they were a couple of weeks ago. You may need to spend some time and use your electronics, but they are out there! Some areas to check out would be Tolchester up to Pooles Island, the mouth of the Patapsco, Love Point, and the Six, Seven and Nine Foot Knolls. Jigging or bait fishing with live spot, soft crabs, or fresh alewife will be your best bet. If you’re interested in bait fishing, check out our video on how to choose the right combo!
Fish are also being caught around structure all over the bay such as the bridge, Thomas Point Light, Sandy Point Light, Baltimore Light and the Sewer Pipe, or head further south to Bloody Point Light and Sharps light. You can also catch them in shallow water around docks or rocky shorelines in that area.
From shore, Sandy Point has been producing some fish on fresh alewife and soft crab, and Kent Narrows has had a good night time bite!
White Perch: White perch have moved into their summer pattern there can be caught in shallow water in the rivers, in deep water in the rivers, and even in deeper water in the main bay around structure or over hard bottom. In deeper water many types of bait will work, either on a bottom rig or a Chesapeake Sabiki Rig. Try small pieces of soft crab, razor clams, bloodworms, lugworms or fish bites! In shallow water, cast spinners such as our popular Perch Pounders around structure.
Speckled Trout: There is still a very good speckled trout bite in the lower bay around both the Maryland and Virginia eastern shore island. Fish paddletails on light jigs heads in shallow water around grass beds and points. The early morning bite is best, but as the temperature warms up you can simply move a little bit deeper to secondary ledges to target them.
Cobia and Redfish: Cobia season opened this week, and there are cobia and bull red fish being caught in Virginia waters. It shouldn’t be long until they start to move up into Maryland waters! There are some redfish being caught in Maryland waters now, primarily as a by catch in shallow water when targeting rockfish and speckled trout.
Snakehead: June is one of the more difficult months to fish for snakehead because of the spawn. We recommend looking for fry balls and fishing chatterbaits or noisy topwater popping frogs in the Blackwater area on the Eastern Shore or in the upper parts of our Western Shore rivers.
