Annapolis, MD—What’s Up? Media’s (WUM) longtime Senior Sales Executive Kathy Sauve reached a milestone by bringing in over $1 million in annual sales revenue for the second year in a row. Last year marked the largest sales volume for an account executive in the company’s 24-year history.
In honor of this accomplishment, company Publisher & President Veronica Tovey announced the inaugural “Kathy Sauve Million Dollar Sales Award.” Any account executive that reaches $1 million in sales revenue throughout a calendar year is eligible to receive the award. Sauve says she has continued to increase her sales each year throughout her 13-year tenure at WUM by focusing on helping people and businesses achieve their own goals through effective advertising.
What’s Up? Media is an Annapolis-based publishing company providing relevant content to Anne Arundel and Eastern Shore communities. Tovey launched WUM in 1997 from her basement. Her vision was to bring the Annapolis community together through a resource that would inform residents and business owners of community events and happenings. Sauve joined the What’s Up? team in April 2006 when the company published just one lifestyle regional and city publication, What’s Up? Annapolis. The website was in its infancy with no digital advertising. Since then, What’s Up? Media has added two monthly magazines, What’s Up? Eastern Shore and What’s Up? West County, a biannual wedding publication, a high-performing website, digital advertising, e-newsletters, an event ticketing platform, and several special events. Sauve has been a crucial team member and an instrumental part of that growth.
Sauve, who holds a B.S in business administration and marketing from the University of Maryland, came to WUM after a 17-year career at Anne Arundel Community College teaching health, wellness, and fitness. Sauve vividly recalls how Tovey was reluctant to hire her, noting how the publisher kept saying, “You have not sold me yet.” Eventually, Tovey gave her a job selling advertising. It turned out to be an outstanding decision. For the past nine years, Sauve has consistently brought in the most sales. One of her interests is to help people and businesses grow. Sauve’s philosophy is: Match the message to the target market, use a venue that effectively reaches that market, and find a campaign that will deliver results. She has creatively found ways to help businesses succeed and is always willing to go the extra mile for her clients.
At WUM, Sauve received the prestigious Tribute To Women In Industry (TWIN) Award from the YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County and subsequently served a three-year term on the YWCA Board of Directors.
