December 11th, 6-8 p.m.; Eastport Yacht Club, Annapolis
The parade bursts upon the Annapolis waterfront with up to forty boats of all shapes and sizes—both power and sail—brightly decorated with thousands of lights and crewed by jolly revelers. This festive maritime event is great fun for the entire family. Skippers participate for the fun of it and circle the waterfront in two fleets: one circling in front of Eastport, the City Dock and the Naval Academy seawall, the other circling the length of Spa Creek, inside the bridge. This year, the Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade will be held on Saturday, December 11th, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Only high winds will result in cancellation. Updates will be posted on the website.
The Firing of the Christmas Guns
December 11th, Noon; Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, St. Michaels
As part of the annual Christmas in St. Michaels festivities, the Chesapeake Independent Blues and the Fort McHenry Guard will return to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum this December to re-create the early 19th century tradition of firing guns to celebrate the Christmas season. The event is free for CBMM members or with general museum admission. Hosted by interpretive volunteers from the Fort McHenry Guard and Chesapeake Independent Blues, the program will be held on Saturday, Dec. 11, from noon–12:30pm along CBMM’s Miles River waterfront. As part of the program, volunteers in authentic uniforms of the Maryland Militia during the War of 1812 will demonstrate the loading and firing of reproduction muskets. “The traditions of celebrating Christmas, and the firing of guns, had been brought to the Americas by Swiss, Scandinavian, and German-speaking immigrants during the 18th and 19th centuries,” said Mark Dubin, a founding member of the Chesapeake Independent Blues. “It is probable that the militia of St. Michaels would have fired the Town’s artillery for notable occasions such as the 4th of July, New Year’s Day, and Christmas, beginning as early as 1814.”

December 12th, 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.; Graduate Annapolis
We are excited to announce that our very popular Nutcracker Tea will be held on Sunday, December 12th at the Graduate Annapolis hotel. Instead, of sitting on Santa’s lap, pictures will be taken of each child putting their letter in Santa’s mailbox in front of the stage. Santa will also be in the picture, seated on stage and more than 6 feet away from each child. Children will be given paper and pencil to write a note to Santa upon arrival and after the Nutcracker Tea dance, we will invite children (by table number) to deliver their message to the mailbox. We hope we can capture the excitement of your child dropping a note in the mailbox with Santa waving on. Mrs. Clause will read “The Night Before Christmas” and the children will still be allowed to come forward for a social distanced seating on the floor if they would like.
