Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse Celebrates 150 Years of Service by John Potvin

The Thomas Point Shoal lighthouse, guiding mariners since 1875, marks its 150th anniversary in 2025. The history includes significant events like the grounding of a British warship in 1812 and battles during the Oyster Wars. John Potvin will cover its history, preservation efforts, and lessons learned, featuring photos by David Sites.

French guitarist Gabriel Bianco is one of the most active guitarists of his generation. He began studying the guitar with his father at age 5 and later graduated from the Paris National Conservatory. Gabriel has won First Prize in some of the most prestigious international competitions, such as the “Guitar Foundation of America,” “Andrés Segovia” in Spain, “Hubert Kappel” in Koblenz, Germany, and “Guitarre Forum Wien” in Austria.
Seminar on the Effects of Smartphones on Children and Adolescents

A Reckless Night: A Path to Freedom
February 6th, 7 p.m.; Annapolis Maritime Museum
Author David Gendell tells the story of the HMS Menelaus on the Chesapeake in 1814, including a failed raid that led to the death of a top Royal Navy captain. The frigate later played a key role in helping dozens of enslaved people escape from the Annapolis area. Gendell unpacks this dramatic chapter of history involving both disaster and freedom.

Earl Lewin’s A Brief History of Man will have its world premiere from February 6-9 at Church Hill Theatre. Lewin asks “what if humans are just one step in a long chain of intelligent life forms? After all, people aren’t very durable, and we have many design faults.” His answers are truly funny—but with thought provoking implications. This play, workshopped last year at the Chester River Yacht and Country Club, has been tweaked and tightened to make the comedy even sharper.

A laugh out loud evening of political satire displaying the spirit, irreverence and DNA of Capitol Steps lives on with Capitol Fools – the new musical parody show. Event proceeds benefit the mission and goals of Talbot Mentors, including its flagship mentoring program, along with the scholars’ program for academically strong and dedicated young people who aspire to be the first in their family to attend college. Talbot Mentors’ offerings encompass a comprehensive array of youth programs and services, beginning in elementary school and continuing right through young adulthood, along with important family support and education.

Little Red's Most Unusual Day: A Children's Opera Program

Forest Ranger Dudley is too shy to ask Little Red’s mom, the widow Hood, to the Forest Ranger Ball. For that reason, he leaves a written invitation in a basket of flowers outside Little Red’s house. Unfortunately for Dudley, the basket is delivered to Granny. Granny simply loves men, especially men in uniform. In the resulting confusion, Dudley loses his pants, Granny kisses the Wolf, Mom gets impatient and Little Red gets in trouble. In fact, everyone experiences, in one way or another, a very, very unusual day.
The 2025 Bernie House Mardi Gras Benefit Gala

Just hours before two teams face off in the “super” NFL championship game, volunteers at Heritage Baptist will kick off their own SOUPer Bowl, a donation-only lunch to support homeless prevention services to those in need. Volunteers will ladle soups prepared by guest chef Brian Shallcross, an HBC member and general manager of the Chesapeake Baysox. Menu soups include Chicken Noodle, Baked Potato and Chili. Guests will also enjoy salad, fresh rolls, and dessert.
