Swim and Paddle the South River 5K
May 30th; Sylvan Shores Community, Riva
Swim & Paddle the South River is a non-competitive 5-mile course designed for participants to complete solo or with teammates. Swim relay pods take turns swimming and paddling on a SUP (relax, you can sit on paddleboards, too) or swimming with a buddy and a dedicated paddler the entire time! Solo swimmers can bring a dedicated support paddler or be paired with one! If swimming isn’t your thing, enjoy the shores of the South River from your own small craft or provided one. Our mission is to celebrate the South River and the recreation and community it provides. This event donates over 50% of proceeds to the Arundel Rivers Federation towards the work they do to protect, preserve, and advocate for the health of the South River!

American Red Cross Full Lifeguard Class
May 29th and May 30th; Severna Park Community Center
Our American Red Cross Lifeguarding course provides entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. Upon successful completion of the course, participants receive American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR/AED certifications that are valid for 2 years. Lifeguards must be at least 15 years old to obtain a lifeguard license in Anne Arundel County.All participants must be at least 15 years old by the last date of the course, attend all training sessions, perform all skills with 100% accuracy, and pass a written test with a score of at least 80%.
