A Passion for Oysters: Film Screening and Discussion
February 15th, 5:30 p.m.; Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, St Michaels
A Passion for Oysters, the latest film by the renowned team of Dave Harp, Tom Horton and Sandy Cannon-Brown, takes a close look at the lower Choptank River which mirrors Maryland’s Bay-wide oyster picture — with its oyster farms, free-range watermen, the world’s biggest oyster sanctuaries and a robust presence of science and environmentalists. By exploring the enduring legacy of oysters in the Chesapeake Bay, the filmmakers probe at what has kept this humble shellfish as an enduring source of controversy for generations. The film screening will be followed by a discussion with Tom Horton and Dave Harp.

The Police Experience, globally renowned as the most authentic tribute to The Police, has been electrifying audiences both nationally and internationally with their high-octane performances reminiscent of the original band's 1980s era. Lauded by Stewart Copeland, the drummer for The Police, for their meticulous attention to detail and impeccable reproduction of every nuance and rhythm, the tribute band has carved out a distinct niche in the realm of musical homage. A milestone moment arrived in 2003 when Ian Copeland, founder of Frontier Booking International, introduced them to an audience including Stewart and Miles Copeland, culminating in an exhilarating on-stage collaboration and high praise from the industry insiders: “…the best copy band I have seen to date…close your eyes and it's my boys…” reflected Miles Copeland.
41st Annual OC Seaside Boat Show
February 16th to 18th; Ocean City Convention Center
The 41st Annual OC Seaside Boat Show will be at the Ocean City Convention Center on February 16th through 18th. The number one boat show on the shore will have 350 boats, over 140 exhibitors, sports cruisers, sport fishing boats, performance boats and so much more. Firearms trainers, pro fishing shops, marinas, insurance, fishing gear, cleaning systems and more will all be available at the show. February 16th to 17th; Downtown Easton
The festival will feature dozens of ice sculptures spread throughout Easton’s historic district. The Discover Easton Signature Event will kick off with a Friday night Ice Block Party on February 17. The celebration will feature free live music and fire performances, outdoor ice skating, and the unveiling of the weekend’s ice sculptures with a free self-guided tour and light display. Live carvings will be all over town, including one sponsored by presenting sponsors Preston Automotive Group and Bay Security/Safehouse, LLC, during the Friday night Block Party.
Arts on Stage Presents Cirque Zuma Zuma

Enjoy traditional African dances, South African gumboot dancers, Gabonese tumblers, percussionists, jugglers, acrobats and contortionists in this performance packed with non-stop action and incredible feats. Cirque Zuma Zuma is sure to impress audiences of all ages.

A tasting glass and stew sampling is included in your General Admission Ticket. Food Only (non-drinking) tickets available. Restaurants / Caterers will have small plates for sale as well.
Annual Black History Month Family Day Festival
February 17th, 10 a.m.; Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex, Hyattsville
The Black History Month Family Day Festival is a day-long celebration! The festival included 20 county entrepreneurs (most of whom were WOMEN!) vending selling African and African American goods and products. There was food from local chefs serving both southern and Caribbean (African) cuisine. Local elementary students, performers, and speakers rounded out a full day of fun.

King: A Filmed Record: Montgomery to Memphis

Inspired by the exhibition A Fire That No Water Could Put Out: Photographs of the Civil Rights Movement from the Collection of The High Museum, AAM presents a screening of cinematic treasure King: A Filmed Record… Montgomery to Memphis. Constructed from a wealth of rare archival footage, this monumental documentary follows Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. from 1955 to 1968 in his rise from regional activist to world-renowned leader of the Civil Rights movement. The film was nominated for an Academy Award Best Documentary Feature in 1970. 185 minutes.
Frederick Douglass' 206th Birthday Celebration
February 17th, 3 p.m.; Avalon Theatre, Easton
February is not only Black History Month. It’s also the birthday of famous abolitionist Frederick Douglass, and his Eastern Shore descendants are planning a celebration in his honor. To honor Douglass’s life and legacy, the Bailey-Groce Family Foundation will host a 206th birthday celebration on February 17, 2024, in Easton, Maryland, featuring live performances, music, and art.

The 2024 5K will be run on Sunday, February 18. The rain/snow date is Sunday, Feb. 25th, just in case Mother Nature does not cooperate this year. Our event is a family-friendly/dog-friendly race run during the doldrums of winter. So get out your running shoes and sweats and train for this fun 5K. And remember, there is Hot Chocolate at the finish of the run!
