Virtual Concert/Talk on Whistler and Debussy
November 19th, 6 p.m.; Virtual Event
The Freer Gallery of Art and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art, will present a free virtual program led by curatorial research fellow Kerry Roeder at the museum and Brian Ganz, classical pianist on Thursday, November 19, at 6 pm EST. They will explore the deep links between the American expatriate artist James McNeill Whistler and the French composer Claude Debussy, who was known in the late nineteenth century as “the Whistler of music.” Immediately after the premiere of the virtual program, the museum will host a brief reception with Ms. Roeder and Mr. Ganz at which viewers and listeners can meet the presenters and ask questions.
November 20th through January 3rd; Maryland Zoo, Baltimore
Starting Friday through January 3rd, the Maryland Zoo will light up the town with a colorful evening display of holiday lights. This seven-week event will bring twinkling lights and holiday flare in the shape of many of your favorite zoo animals. More than 50 light displays with 100,000 environmentally friendly LED lights will transform the zoo into a sparkling winter wonderland. Kick off the holiday season with a special featured viewing of Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch at the Annapolis Town Center’s Drive-In movie lot. It is the perfect way to get the entire family into the holiday spirit. The community at-large is urged to provide curbside drop-off at Chamber’s Park located at 14 Dorsey Ave, Annapolis, MD 21401 on Saturday, November 21st between 10:00am – 2:00pm. Cash donations to feed families through Feed Anne Arundel will be accepted through a text app on the day of the event. Registration not needed for curbside donation. ArtFarm has partnered with the Maryland Theater for the Performing Arts to create an outdoor life drawing art event for all! We will be providing a professional model in costume who will move through a range of poses that you can sketch & draw throughout the event as well as a curated playlist to keep you in the creative mood. You should BYO supplies. We will have chairs spaced out around the model so you can sit and sketch, but if standing at an easel or using a drawing board is more your style, you will have to BYO.
