Some people -- particularly older women -- are beyond shocked when I tell them that I "trashed my dress." Let's be clear here, though ... this photo session didn't actually ruin my dress. Nothing was torn or soiled beyond repair.
(At least, I hope it didn't. Can I admit something? I haven't gotten it cleaned yet. So there's a chance that the dress wasn't ruined initially, but it is now. I'm somewhat afraid of even dealing with it now, only to find out that I actually did ruin it.)
The thing is, I'm not going to wear this dress again. I'm also not going to pass it down to my daughters (Because what are the chances that an A-line satin gown with pockets, a sweetheart neckline, and a dark red sash will be in fashion in 25 to 30 years?) And if my sister wants to wear my gown -- which I'm about 98.7 percent sure she won't -- then, gee whiz, I'm very sorry. All this to say ... does it matter if I ruined my wedding dress? I got a great memory and a ton of fun, fabulous photos out of it.
I joined my photographer, Holly Blood, at the Ocean City, Maryland, inlet on an early June morning. We arrived just before 7 a.m. when the lighting was best (but the water was chilly). My husband joined me for some extra-fun photos. The water wasn't as cold as we thought it might be, and we only got some strange stares from fisherman wondering what a crazy girl was doing rolling around in the sand and water in a pristine ivory wedding gown.
I don't often promote specific businesses on here, but I think it's appropriate to give a shout out to my wedding photographer, Holly Blood. Holly is not only a great photographer, but a fantastic friend. She's based in Lower Delaware near the beach, but will travel to shoot weddings, families, engagements, and other special events.
Let's move on to the awesome photos she took that day:
Anyone who knows me and David is thinking right now, "Huh. Typical."
I find it very awkward to be posting photos of myself on such a public forum. If you think I'm conceited for doing so, I apologize, particularly because I kind of agree with you.
Climbing up this lifeguard chair in a long dress was quite challenging, I must tell you.
