Fine Arts at Oxford – Oxford Community Center Friday, May 17th through Sunday, May 19th For 35 years, Fine Arts at Oxford has been the Oxford Community Center’s biggest, most visible event. Roughly 1,000 people come to Oxford over the weekend from throughout the region to see over 40 juried artists exhibit and sell their fine art. Every year there is a fresh, consistently high-quality show for art enthusiasts. Chesapeake Sea Glass Festival – Chesapeake College, Wye Mills Saturday, May 18th, 12 p.m. The Chesapeake Sea Glass Festival will host over 30 sea glass artisans from all over the county. Peruse unique jewelry, have your sea glass shards examined by experts, and enjoy a lecture on Chesapeake Bay finds. Proceeds will benefit local humane societies. St. Michaels Running Festival – St. Michaels High School, St. Michaels Saturday, May 18th, 7 a.m. Based in one of the oldest and most picturesque towns on the Delmarva Peninsula, the eighth annual St. Michaels Running Festival promises gorgeous views. Run a half-marathon or 5K, both USATF certified, on courses that meander through waterfront communities and tranquil country roads. The race starts at St. Michaels High school and finishes on Fremont Street in historic downtown St. Michaels. Kids can enjoy a 1K that includes a shirt, bib, and medal. After the race, head over to Runners Village for beer, live music, and awards. Kent Island Day 2019 – Stevensville Pocket Park, Stevensville Saturday, May 18th, 10 a.m. Each year, on the third Saturday of May, Kent Island Day commemorates the founding of Kent Island in 1631 with a parade down Main Street, historic exhibits, displays, musical entertainment, activities, food, vendors, costumes, crafts, and activities for kids. Maritime Model Expo – Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, St. Michaels Saturday, May 18th and Sunday, May 19th Small boats and big fun are in store for guests of all ages as the Model Guild of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and the Washington Ship Model Society host the 13th Maritime Model Expo. In addition to numerous indoor and outdoor maritime exhibitions along 18 acres of waterfront, the Maritime Model Expo offers CBMM guests pond demonstrations, model races, special exhibits, family activities, food, and more. Cambridge Classic Powerboat Regatta – Great Marsh Park, Cambridge Saturday, May 18th, 11 a.m. The Cambridge Classic Powerboat Regatta will once again bring the thunder and speed of world class powerboat racing to the Choptank River at Hambrooks Bay. Now in its 109th year, this year’s Classic is expecting approximately 70 boats. Each heat of racing involves a flying start and five laps around one closed course within Hambrooks Bay. Spectators can see all the action at Great Marsh Park, where bleacher seating and room for lawn chairs will be available. Or, if you prefer to watch from the water, join the boat spectator fleet on the back side of the course in Hambrooks Bay. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. CASABLANCA – Trident Aircraft Hangar at Easton Airport, Easton Saturday, May 18th, 6:30 p.m. Come support CASA of the Mid-Shore during its spring fundraiser, CASABLANCA. This fantastic evening will feature vintage aircrafts and autos, a live piano bar and 1940s music, upscale nightclub décor, and casino games. Adding to the enchanting ambiance, CASABLANCA will feature the culinary creativity and talent of Gourmet by the Bay, who will be offering thematic food and beverages, including French and Moroccan appetizers and gin-based specialty cocktails. On the Grandstand Apron from 12–6 p.m., stroll through a collection of shops, boutiques, and businesses owned exclusively by women. 144th Preakness – Pimlico Race Course, Baltimore Saturday, May 18th, 10:30 a.m. The 144th running of the Preakness Stakes, the Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown, returns to the historic Pimlico Race Course. First contested in 1873, the Preakness is one of thoroughbred racing’s most valued contests. Ticket options range from premium seating to the Budweiser InfieldFest.
