They calm us when we are stressed, ease our loneliness, encourage exercise, and improve our overall health. To honor our four-legged friends, the AFSP Maryland Chapter will host its very first Maryland Paws for Prevention Walk to raise awareness and funds that allow AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss. All ages are welcome to join and so are friendly leashed dogs. Orioles Roadshow – Annapolis Towne Centre, Annapolis Saturday, May 11th, 11 a.m. The Orioles Roadshow is coming to Annapolis Towne Centre! Family Concert: Bob Brown Puppets' Carnival of the Animals – Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, Annapolis Saturday, May 11th, 2 p.m. The annual Family Concert, designed for all ages, pairs the Symphony’s live music with comedic puppeteers and a fun story line. Bob Brown Puppets are a leading children’s theater company, offering the finest in children's education for over 50 years. Families are encouraged to meet the musicians after the show to learn about different instruments. Puddles & Paddles – Ellen O. Moyer Nature Park, Annapolis Saturday, May 11th, 3 p.m. Puddles & Paddles is a family-friendly event designed to bring together fun and education! Join the Annapolis Maritime Museum for kayaking, seining, an environmental art project, experiments, an inflatable obstacle course, and animal encounters. A food truck and snow cones will be on site. Guava Jelly will perform in the waterfront amphitheater. While you're at the park, learn about AMM's storm water conveyance and wetland restoration project, water pollution and the importance of clean water, and the public outdoor recreation areas offered at the Ellen O. 7th Annual Chesapeake BaySavers Golf Tournament – Queenstown Harbor Golf Course, Queenstown Friday, May 10th, 9 a.m. Spend a day on the green while supporting a great cause during the 7th Annual Chesapeake BaySavers Golf Tournament. The day will begin with breakfast and registration at 9 a.m. and a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Enjoy lunch and never-ending beverages on the course, followed by a barbeque and awards dinner. Proceeds will support the Chesapeake BaySavers’ mission to restore the bay through legislative initiatives and hands-on restoration work and community outreach. Maryland Freedom Swim – Bill Burton Fishing Pier State Park, Trappe Saturday, May 11th, 7 a.m. Let’s go for a swim! Take to the water for this 1.7-mile swim between the bridges from the Bill Burton Fishing Pier State Park on the Talbot County side to the Sailwinds Park beach access point on the Dorchester County side. This trip across the Choptank River is supported by paddle craft, motor craft, and the U.S. Coast Guard. A portion of the proceeds from this race will go to the ShoreRivers organization as well as the Water Safety program for third graders at the Dorchester Family YMCA. 5th Annual BAAM Fest – Idlewild Park, Easton Saturday, May 11th, 12 p.m. Building African American Minds (BAAM) Inc. is hosting its 5th Annual BAAM Fest. The event will include informational booths, live music by The Exclusives and DJ Chyna, giveaways and door prizes, kids’ activities, a dance contest, a basketball tournament, and a photo booth for setting up a fun Mother’s Day picture with mom. A Spring Thing in Caroline – Downtown Denton Saturday, May 11th, 1 p.m. Don’t miss this free community arts event in Denton featuring local artists and businesses, live entertainment, concessions, and fun for the whole family! This is the perfect event for families to enjoy all that downtown Denton has to offer. Family Movie Night: Mary Poppins Returns – Sailwinds Park, Cambridge Friday, May 10th, 7:30 p.m. Bring the family and join in the first FREE Movie Night of 2019, featuring Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns. The City of Cambridge is sponsoring the movie and will provide free drinks and popcorn while supplies last. This is a family-friendly event.

Maryland Film Fest – Station North Arts & Entertainment District, Baltimore Wednesday, May 8th through Sunday, May 12th Reels will roll when thousands of movie buffs pack Baltimore’s Station North Arts & Entertainment District for the 21st annual Maryland Film Festival. The festival with feature more than 40 feature films and 80 short films. Enjoy selections from the world festival circuit spanning all genres, meet filmmakers during panel discussions, and attend special events. As always, John Waters will pick and host a screening of one of his favorite films. Whether you’re a film buff or casual moviegoer, the Maryland Film Festival will leave you inspired! Ride for the Feast 2019 – Ocean City, Annapolis, Baltimore Saturday, May 11th and Sunday, May 12th Ride for the Feast (RFTF) is a two-day, 140-mile charity bike ride. Each May, over 200 community members pedal their hearts out from Ocean City, MD to Moveable Feast’s headquarters in East Baltimore. Moveable Feast uses 100% of the money raised to put food on the table of severely ill neighbors. Kicking off on Saturday, May 11th at 7 a.m., riders and their crew will start with a 100-mile journey along Maryland’s Eastern Shore. On Sunday, May 12th, they will complete a 40-mile ride from Annapolis to Moveable Feast’s headquarters in Baltimore City and celebrate with a post-ride party.
