rErin, 26, a marketing manager, shares her memories of their wedding with us:
The engagment. Robert, 28, digital advertising sales, proposed on November 6, 2010, in our apartment. We celebrated with brunch and champagne at our favorite restaurant in New York City, the Little Owl.
rThe venue. We had a lot of guests that would be traveling from out of town, so we needed a "destination" that was easy to get to, but also a fun weekend away. The Tidewater Inn had everything we were looking for – the charm of Easton, the simplicity for our guests to stay right at the Inn, and it was walkable to the church for the ceremony. Essentially our guests were able to park their cars on Friday and walk to every event for the remainder of the wedding weekend. We loved that. We are also big foodies, so quality of the food was important to us. The Tidewater really impressed us in that department!
rThe dress. My dress (Lea-Ann Belter from Annabelle) had a little bit of everything I was looking for – the classic silk and lace details, but also a modern and sophisticated silhouette. It wasn't something I thought would look dated when I reflect on my wedding photos in ten years.
rThe ceremony. I remember how special it was for my Dad to walk me down the aisle and then to see Robert's face at the other end waiting for me. Also, Robert has four sisters, so we asked each of them to read poems during the ceremony, which was really special to us. The whole thing was a bit of a whirlwind and we were glad to have the video footage so that we could replay it and catch all the details we missed on the day of.
rThe reception. Our reception was amazing. We did have a cocktail hour for guests and I can't tell you much about that – I wasn't there! I did hear the lamb skewers and mini-crabcakes were a big hit though! For dinner, we served a "surf and turf," filet mignon with cabernet demi-glace and baked rockfish stuffed with house-made crab imperial. It was served with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. It was delicious! As far as atmosphere, the Gold Room at the Tidewater was cozy and beautiful, but our band, Amaretto, really made the night memorable. They were so good and kept all of our guests dancing the entire night.
rThe cake. We served an almond cake with almond brittle Italian buttercream frosting and a raspberry filling. We were a little bit nervous serving and almond cake, but it turned out to be a real hit among our guests!
rHow did you personalize your wedding? One of my favorite things we did was deliver chocolate chip walnut cookies from Levain Bakery to each of the guests we had staying at the hotel. They are our absolutely favorite cookies from a bakery a block from our apartment in NYC. It was great to share them with so many of our guests. We also named each of the tables at the reception after a city that we've traveled to and have special memories of. On each table, we wrote a little note about why that city was special and gave our guests ideas of things to do if they ever have the opportunity to travel there.
rThe honeymoon. We traveled to Thailand on our honeymoon. It was an incredible experience. The culture, food, and beaches are exquisite and the people are wonderful. We are already dreaming of our next trip!
