The Proposal
Alex planned a very well-thought-out proposal on Easter Day of 2016. To avoid any suspicion, he asked all of Heather’s family to join them for church on Easter morning. Since this was a typical holiday they spent together, Heather was clueless to any type of potential surprise proposal. While helping her young cousins hunt for Easter eggs after church, Alex snagged the last egg and placed her engagement ring in it. When they were finished collecting eggs, Heather and her cousin turned around to see Alex holding the last egg. “You forgot one,” he says. “At first, I told him to put it back so little Ryder could find it, but then he got down on one knee and started to propose,” recalls Heather.
The Venue
Knowing that the golf course was beautiful in the fall, Chartwell was an easy choice for the couple. Also knowing that they would need a venue that would fit 200 guests helped them make their decision.
The Wedding Weekend
For Heather and Alex, the party started on Friday and did not end until saying goodbye to their friends and family on Sunday. First, they had a rehearsal dinner for the wedding party on Friday. That dinner was followed by a welcome reception open to all guests at Heather’s family home. On Sunday, guests were invited back to Heather’s family home for a farewell unch.
The Vows
After their first look, the couple took a moment to private read their vows to one another. This gave the couple a special
moment together before the ceremony began and helped calm their nerves.
The Theme
The couple chose a “vintage glamour theme” for their wedding. “Alex and I were both History majors in college so I think we both connect with the past,” explains Heather. “We love the 1920’s time period and we used that for our inspiration.” Every detail whispered vintage glam, including her cascading bouquet that was similar to her grandmother’s bouquet from that time period.
Their Best Decision
“The best decision we made was having our ceremony and reception in the same place,” the couple shares. “The transition was fluid. Later on, one our guests mentioned that they really liked not having to travel to different locations. This option also allowed us to participate in our cocktail hour so we were able to spend even more time with our guests.”
Their Best Advice
Heather recommends hiring a wedding planner. For them it was the most important aspect of planning and staying on schedule. “Planning becomes overwhelming when there are so many options to choose from. The wedding planner has preferred vendors, which helps out tremendously with a market that has so many companies to choose from.” A second piece of advice they have to offer is to take your time being engaged. “Have fun! It’s the best day of your life and it goes by quickly so enjoy every moment!”
