It may be the tradition to serve a three-tiered wedding cake at your reception. But nobody said that was the exciting thing to do. Even if you have your eyes (and stomach) set on cutting into a cake or just freezing a tier for your anniversary, consider these cake alternatives that are bound to be crowd pleasers.
Bite-sized Treats: Macarons, cookies, and cake pops all work well at a reception where you suspect your guests will be spending little to no time in their seats after dinner. Grab-and-go desserts work well for those who don’t want to leave the dance floor. They also double as a midnight snack for guests to pick up on their way back home for the night.
Ice Cream: Ice cream sandwiches, sundaes, shakes, and cones are bound to bring out the kid in each of your wedding guests. Perfect for a summer wedding, offer an ice cream stand or a make-your-own sundae bar with sprinkles to match your color scheme.
Single Serving Dishes: Let each guest pick their own flavor by serving donuts, cupcakes, mini pies or even dessert shots. Larger than bite-sized treats, these dishes can often be stacked into tiers similar to a wedding cake to give you the traditional wedding look. Unlike cake, your guests will be able to pick out their sweet of choice instead of waiting to see what the server brings to the table.
