There are balloons, and then there are balloon installs. The former are best consumed with candy: you pop ‘em, deflate ‘em, steal their air for birthday giggles. The latter are the untouchables, inflatables-as-art. They’re the wedding prop you didn’t know about: Massive, sophisticated installations that give flowers a run for their petals, considering they cost hundreds of dollars less, on average. Lola Tangle, the proprietor of an Annapolis-based balloon biz, enjoys adding texture, like pampas grass and ostrich feathers, to her organic installations. “The big thing in interior design right now is whitewashing everything, using lots of neutral tones and woods, and that’s great — I want to see balloons used in upscale settings,” she explains. But she’s also excited to bring back the fun, like with her next project — a lilac, peach and mint number studded with succulents.
