Years teaching at The Country School: 21
Currently teaching: Kindergarten
Proudest teaching moment: “When I see a struggling student work diligently and persevere through assignments and never give up. I tell my students that when we make mistakes our brains are growing and we are learning. I knew that I had created a climate of warmth and safety when one day while at the whiteboard and I made a mistake. I heard a little voice say, ‘Good job Mrs. Godlee, you made a mistake, you’re getting smarter.”
Teaching philosophy: “Generate excitement and enthusiasm about learning and to always keep it fun!”
Toughest challenge facing educators: “One of the toughest challenges that kindergarten educators have is finding a balance between instructional time and time for play. Play is such an important part of learning at this stage in development, yet many schools have drastically reduced the time that children have to play.”
