Annapolis native, Christian Siriano made his name by winning Project Runway in 2008. As Heidi Klum host of the show says, “In fashion, one day you’re in and one day you’re out.” Siriano is certainly not resting on the laurels of his Project Runway win. He has continued to work to make a name for himself in fashion and has been a clear standout. You may have seen his designs on the red carpet as he has designed for such cele ities including Sarah Jessica Parker, Lady Gaga, Victoria Beckham, Christina Hendricks, and Taylor Swift.
On being discovered…
“Pursue your dreams and have no fears. If you spend too much time in the planning phase it can take away from progress you could be making and your evolution as an artist. Make your path.”
Creative Process…
“I sketch all the time. I always keep a sketchbook with me so I can work whenever I’m inspired. We all have deadlines. Don’t let deadlines limit your creative process. Don’t be afraid to do your dreams.”
Must Have Styling Product for Men…
“Aveda Men Pure-formance ™ Grooming Clay.”
Christian Siriano's Black Dahlia Dress (left) plays on the little black dress look with volume reminiscent of a flower's petals and an asymmetrical high low hemline. Pictured on the right is Siriano's Silk Faille Pleated Tea Length Skirt (fully lined) paired with Lace Bell Sleeve Blouse (lined in nude charmeuse) offering a more bold and graphic take on the standard delicate lace blouse. Artistry Evolution…
“Sometimes I recognize growth in the moment. As an artist it is good to look back on your work and examine what you have learned. I look back at some pieces I’ve designed and see things that I could have done differently and it inspires new designs. My approach is to em ace challenges because inevitably it is part of the process. Be prepared to fail because that is part of the learning process. Use what you’ve learned and be prepared to learn along the way.”
Christian Siriano's fashion line is available at Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and online at ChristianSiriano.com and RentTheRunway.com.
